Ahmed Abdel-Latif

Special Assistant, Policy and Programme, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

Ahmed Abdel Latif is currently Special Assistant, Policy and Programme, at the Office of the Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Previously, he was Senior Programme Manager for Innovation, Technology and Intellectual Property at ICTSD (2007-2015). As an Egyptian career diplomat he worked at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva (2000-2004) where he was a delegate to the TRIPS Council and to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He has taken an active part in international discussions on intellectual property, innovation and green technologies in relation to public policy and development. He is the co-editor of Patents and Clean Energy (UNEP, EPO and ICTSD, 2010). He holds an LL.M in Public International Law (LSE), a BA in Political Science (American University in Cairo) and the Diplôme of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po Paris). He is a citizen of Egypt.
